Samsung's sleek blue logo is found on nearly every household electronic appliances, including flat screen TVs and smartphones. Talking about this company today, we immediately associate it with their Galaxy range of smartphones and tab devices. But the company was not what it is today many years back.
The Begining of Samsung
They started selling noodles in the year 1938. It is surprising how a company selling noodles and seafood dumps its food product line so it can venture into the electronic world. The company was founded by Lee Byung-chull who had the desire for his company to become big, powerful and everlasting like the stars of the sky.
Following the Korean War that took place in the 50s, the company ventured into other industries like sugar and textile. However, their electronic logo never appeared until the 1969 -- the year they officially started producing electronics. This is the year they begun producing black and white TV sets and tapes. Their logo became graphically sophisticated in 1980, at the same time planting an oversea factory. They designed washing machines, VCRs, refrigerators and colored TV screens.
Finally in the year 1993, the chairman of the company, Lee Kun-hee, announced that the company was under new management. He emphasized that the company would embrace change and innovative technology, thus transforming itself into a major industry player in electronics.
Accomplishments of Samsung
This day has evolved to become a leading electronics and technology company in terms of financial base. However, there is much more to say about them rather than just talking about how they're the leading electronic manufacturer.
Android OS is an operating system that the company has come to love to the point of dominating the smart device market with nothing but Android, and especially in the oversee markets. The Korean tech-giant sold more phones in 2012 than any other company. This accounted for 22% market share (according to Gartner).
At the time, the OS accounted for 70% of the market share. At the same time, Samsung captured 42% of that portion. Until recently when they ditched their favorite OS for their native Tizen OS, the company manufactured popular Android-based smartphones like theGalaxy range of smartphones.
Galaxy is a brand that has encompassed 50 different devices when you take into account the variants of smartphones they have, phablets and tablets launched into the market until now. They've addressed every niche, every price point, every carrier, every form factor, and every country their products reach. Since they launched their flagship Galaxy in the year 2009, it marked the entry into the Android smart device market. Fast forward to the present day and the company is currently riding high on the success of their Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Tab and Samsung Galaxy Tab S.
The ''S'' as a Symbol of Success
Through the company's dominance into the smart device market, they've been able to distinguish their flagship devices with letter S. The original S device was launched into the market in the year 2010, and has roughly sold 24 million units. At the time, it packed a 512MB of RAM, 1GHz processor, 5MP camera and a 4'' screen.
In 2011, the company geared up to produce new smartphones year after year. They produced the Ace, the Fit, the Gio, and the Mini. However, it is the S2 that was to secure the company's position in the Android's top tree. With a 1GB of RAM, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera and a 4.3 inch display, the S2 blew up the competition. They sold over 40 million units in different variants and countries. Then the S3 came, and boasted of 1GB/2GB of RAM, 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 4.8-inch display (720p resolution) and an 8mp camera. It proved to be the fastest-selling smart device on a global scale. They've sold over 40 million handsets in 145 countries so far.
Tabs and Hybrid
The Galaxy brand has not been confined to smartphones alone. Instead, it has been incorporated into the Galaxy tab range of devices, including the Galaxy Note smart device. In fact, the first Galaxy Note sold over 10 million units within the first year or releasing the tablet.
It boasted of a 5.3'' display, a stylus, special functionality and related software (known as S-pen). The Galaxy Note 2 updated the screen to 5.55'' (720p resolution) and powered by 1.6GHz quad-core processor. Again, it had a 2GB of RAM and a storage capacity of up to 128GB. The Galaxy Note 10.1 is the best tablet so far since it's a combination of S-pen from other Note models. The Company did it again with S4, S5 and S6 range of smartphones. It has managed to keep its S-series distinct due to the quality of design and marketing.
There is no questioning why Samsung have been one of the fastest growing and one of the most recognized brand worldwide.
